wow, better than TTLG... i dunno if i agree with that one :P
but it was still a cool episode
nicole: agreed, this was a great episode but of those on this list, it's maybe sixth best, after Man Behind the Curtain.
This episode was pretty lame. I REALLY HATE IT WHEN THEY KILL OFF PEOPLE FOR NO REAL REASON! Grr...
@jenna Why? This is a war people are gonna die. If they don't mindlessly kill people like it happens in wars the audience won't believe the stakes.
I loved this episode. It was absolutely fantastic !
I thought Alex had a good reason to be killed. It's going to motivate Ben for the next couple of seasons. And the reason she died is because Ben was trying to use trickery, so it's pretty appropriate, since the one time his trickery doesn't work, his daughter dies. I think this is going to be huge for his character.
But on another note, there is no way TSOTTC was better than TTLG.
I rank this episode a bit higher than Not In Portland, but nowhere near the top. It didn't have the cohesiveness of The Constant or fist pumping action and twists like TTLG.
Just gonna say this was the best episode ever.
#1 New improved smoke monster (a freaking smoke train gtfooh)
#2 Ben shows emotion for the first time i believe.
#3 Widmore gave us a ton of things to ponder(the island was his first, ben took it from him)
#4 The beginning was totally creepy me and the wife both said it reminded us of the first scene in lost with jack laying there.
I didn't like the episode and I can honestly say that I don't like the way the show is going. If this is a game between Widmore and Ben, that's very disappointing.
Even Smokey disappointed me. Alex's death was tragic and brutal.
It was a great ep -- but not as good as The Constant or TTLG. Those eps had me crying -- the emotion was so intense. This one, though had lots of action, really moved the plot along, and lots of surprises that open up a lot future possibilities (Ben vs. Widmore, etc.) To me The Constant was best because it was so focused and tight, story-wise. TSOTTC had a little more peripheral action -- all mostly good, but not quite at the TC level of excellence. (Sayid's conversion moment was a little weak, imo)
i think people are overrating this a bit because it's the first episode back and we all had cabin fever.
it's still a great episode, though. i was particularly impressed by the interplay between ben and widmore. michael emerson has always provided very strong performances, but perhaps now he has a partner in crime.
The suspension of disbelief went too far.
House exploding and Claire doesn't get a scratch, the wooden picnic table stopping bullets, etc.
It's the only reason I don't think it's the best episode ever. If the action scenes would have been even half believable, it would have been.
Ben rules. 'nuff said.
I perosanlly think the ratings for the good S4 episodes are too high while the average episodes are too low.
I don't think that this episode deserves to be higher than Man Behind the Curtain, or anything ranked above it. It was good, it made me want MORE, but I don't feel like I got enough to keep me satisfied for a whole week. That last scene was no doubt iconic, but not until we see everything else that happens. For now, its just a slight disappointment...
I feel like this ep was rated so high not because of technical brilliance (aside from great ME and Alan Dale performances) but because it was fast paced, action packed, filled with surprises (many WTF moments), and holds a lot of promise for where the rest of the season (and next season will go) -- but I agree, probably more on level with Man Behind the Curtain. The action sequences were a little cliched, imo (explosions, red shirts dying) But Ben does indeed rule :-)
