Here's a blast from the past folks- a video post! Be sure to give it plenty of time to load before you try watching it though. It may not be as bulky as some of last year's videos, but it's still enough to slow things down a bit.
If you're not interested in the video, then get right to checking out all of the wonderful content below! Not as many tough-to-call point rulings this week but there was still a lot to process. We broke more records this week with "LaFleur"'s stratospherically high score!
We've got a week off from Lost this week but that doesn't mean I'll be taking a week off! Next week I'll be taking a look at how our League Characters have been preforming so far this season. Stay tuned for your mid-season Fantasy Report Cards.
If you've got any questions, consult the League rule book at the bottom of this post. If you can't find an answer to your questions there, shoot me an email at LFLquestions@gmail.com. I will do my best to get back to you as promptly as possible.
"LaFleur" in 500 words or less:
Sawyer & company flash way into the past, where the friggin’ 4-toed statue stands in all its glory. Naturally, we only see it for a second. From behind. Then Locke fixes the frozen donkey wheel (seriously, how many more times does he plan on milking this scene?) and the Left Behinders get decked into the days of Disco and DHARMA.
They find Daniel, moping and muttering strange things to himself all alone. Apparently Charlotte’s body is still hop scotching its way through time but the rest of them are stuck. Doesn’t seem too terribly hopeless until they hear gunshots ring out. Jules and James bag and tag a pair of Others and they come face to face with a member of DHARMA.
Sawyer is plotting out their cover story but Juliet nearly throws it all away when Amy tries to lead them through the sonic fence without shutting it off first. Jules calls her bluff but Amy doesn’t quite turn it off. Those sneaky DHARMA devils and their earplugs!
Sawyer wakes up and gets grilled by Horace Goodspeed. His cover story works perfectly but DHARMA plans to dump them in 1974 Tahiti. Not so good. Fortunately, before Horace gets too comfy with dismissing Sawyer as “DHARMA material” and giving them the boot, Richard Alpert comes into camp with vengeance on his mind. Turns out there was a truce between DHARMA and the Others before Sawyer and Jules up and shot those Others.
Sawyer, shrugging Horace off like a high school freshman, goes out and lays it on the table with Richard. He convinces the ageless wonder that he’s not DHARMA by name dropping Jughead and Locke. Glad that bomb came back into play, albeit in abstentia. Horace, impressed by Sawyer’s testicular fortitude not only lets him stay and “look for his people” (as requested in the cover story) but eventually elevates Sawyer to head of DHARMA security. A new sheriff in town indeed!
Sawyer convinces Juliet to stick around instead of wandering out into 1974. Jump ahead three years and Sawyer is saving Horace’s drunk butt, searching grids for Locke’s return and shacking up with Juliet. What can I say, the man has taste. Juliet works on the DHARMA vans and delivers Amy’s early arrival. Miles and Jin are deputies in Sawyer’s posse and Dan seems to have vanished completely.
One morning, Sawyer gets a call from Jin. He drives out to the valley and sees Jack and Hurley step out of Jin’s ride. Then, Michael Giacchino milks his talents for all they’re worth as he tries to conjure up a sweeping reunion tune that feels epically more important that the reunion of “Skate.”
All this was much more interesting than I make it sound. I swear.
POINT RULINGS FOR EPISODE 5x08: “LaFleur”
1) Sawyer has an on-Island Flashback. We ruled it this way because the end of the 1977 segment ties into the present that we saw Jack, Kate and Hurley experiencing. Because everything occurring before this moment occurred on-Island, an on-Island flashback is the only available option.
2) The full statue is considered new for everyone present. Miles certainly didn't know about it, but Jin had at least seen the foot before. It is unknown if Sawyer or Juliet know about the foot, but none of them knew the foot was in that general vicinity. Since they were all taken aback by it, we're being generous and calling new for everybody.
3) Horace gets a minor injury. While he is on the video surveillance monitor, he stumbles and falls. Even though he is on a monitor, the feed is live, so the DHARMA dudes are seeing Horace fall live. This is enough to count against him.
4) "LaFleur" is not considered a nickname. Sawyer uses it as a pseudonym. It crossed a very fine line. In the end, we didn't feel that an alias was the same thing as a nickname.

WARNING: This section contains the title of the next episode and some conjecture on what it might mean. If you consider this sort of information to be spoilerish, then do not continue. If not...
The next episode of Lost is entitled “Namaste.” Sound familiar? It should! That word has been bounced around on Lost since Season 2. It’s one of the catchphrases of Marvin Candle and the DHARMA Initiative. The episode title doesn’t really surprise me that much, especially now that we’re stuck back in the glory days of DHARMA.
But what does “Namaste” mean? Beyond the literal definition as a form of salutation, “Namaste” makes me think that 5x09 will have some very heavy DHARMA involvement. Might that mean a Horace flashback? I think it’s a neat idea and it would certainly help fill in some of the history and a few deep dark secrets that remain in regards to DHARMA.
If not a Horace-centric episode, then I think it would probably focus on Ben. He hasn’t had an episode to himself yet and he’s certainly still a major player in the overall scope of the show. I’m frankly more interested in some of his globetrotting with Sayid prior to Flight 316 but I guess a dose of Ben’s DHARMA drama might be called for as well.
So that’s my theory. Either a Horace episode (which I’m secretly hoping for, as he is on my Fantasy Team) or a Ben episode (which won’t help my team but should prove insightful into the weird mind of Benjamin Linus).
Be sure to come back the Monday after the episode airs (that’s the 23rd for those of you without a calendar handy) to see how “Namaste” fairs for your Fantasy Team!
Once again, here is the official LFL rule book. Happy reading!
