Thanks to Christine for the following.
ABC said that as of now, it is sticking with its plan to air the eight episodes it has of Lost -- this coming on the day that Fox announced that it will bench its own serialized midseason thriller, 24.
Lost
Lost executive producer Damon Lindelof said Wednesday that the final episode that has been written ends in a cliffhanger that will not be resolved for viewers until after the strike.

I am guessing that this could still change though...just like everything else.
I guess this is slightly better news...I'm really not sure how to feel about anything anymore
www.thehydrablog.blogspot.com
this seems like ok news,i mean....i don't know actually....does this mean that they scrapped the remainder of the season???or does this mean that in case the strike happens to last through lets say january, and they dont produce anymore episodes they will show what hey have, which happens to be 8 episodes
General,
I'm pleased with this decision. Yes, waiting the unspecified amount of time between episode 4.08 and 4.09 will be difficult, but I can make it.
Captain Jack Sparrow,
According to the PTB, we will get the last eight episodes of season four. Lost has a forty-eight more episodes of the story to tell, and that's not changing. It's just a matter of when.
all of this stuff is really, really depressing :(
i have a horrible feeling inside my stomach like the beatles just broke up or something... i hope everything can be fixed, cause i dont know what i'd do otherwise
i NEED lost!
It will be alright. Think about it, maybe they will run the first 8 episodes, then we have to wait like 2-3 months (darkufo and g-man will make some cup to pass the time :D), and then we get the other 8 episodes, and we have a little less time to wait for the 5th season.
Hopefully they push the rest of the season to the Fall and air a 24 episode season.
If they do that it'll be great.
Waiting until 2009 means even I will get restless and probably not care.
So, it's good to at least keep us entertained for 8 episodes.
Not only that, if the strike lasts until February/March, the only scripted show on tv will be Lost.
Which means, we could be in for some MASSIVE Lost ratings :)
I like m76's idea.
And thanks God ABC is doing the right decision! It would be stupid not to air the first 8 episodes.
i'm actually dissappointed...if we do get the first 8 episodes, we're going ot have to wait nearly another year for the rest of them...and yeah, it'll be cool for 2 months but i'll be super depressed afterwards lol. ugh this strike is ruining everythign!
argh, I just hate it, the strike ruins everything. I believe that they are right if they want to strike, they do a lot of hard work and deserve to get the money from online-aring or dvd's! The channels should allow this, cause if they don't they will air stupid reality tv or RERUNS! And that will be very bad for them, so I believe(HOPE) that the broadcasting company's will make the right choice. Or else it will ruin all my favourite shows like Lost and Prison Break which is already going on early hiatus after next week.
well at least they are gonna air all 48 episodes as planned....kinda bummed about the season.....i would still like to know when the point of no return is...like when is the deadline for the strike to end in order for us to get our whole season of Lost
i think if the strike does affect the airing of the season...they should show 8 episodes in feb and march, then a 5 month pause until october, show the remaining 8 episodes oct. and nov. then a 2 month pause(dec. jan.) and Lost to start again in Feb.of 2009
as much as it pains me to say this, i know in the long run it would probably be better off. but i would prefer to watch the fourth season whole instead of just only eight episodes.
I totally support the writers strike. They deserve to be paid for their talents just like the muck who make money from their talents. Anywayz, if for some wild reason, ABC decides to not air Lost until next year, that will be the end of my relationship with Lost. This is begining to feel like a boyfriend that stood you up and you're giving him another chance. You see the outcome well in advance but you hang in there only to be stood up again. ABC must know by now that fans treat their fav shows like a relationship. And I don't like to be stood up.
I don't like how Lindelof stated that. It was if he was using the cliffhanger resolution as a threat against the strike.
Maybe I just read it wrong, who knows.
By the way, didn't Damon and Carlton say in an earlier interview that they would never step foot onto a picket line?
Here's what I think they should do-
ABC should wait until the last possible minute (aka Feb. 1 or so) to see if the strike gets resolved. If it does, then it's full steam ahead and the season runs in full (assuming they can get it all shot).
If they can't resolve the strike by then, they should hold the new episodes until the end of the spring season.
Shift Dancing with the Stars to Tuesdays and Wednesdays for a reality showdown against American Idol (I think Sanjaya-gate pissed off enough people last year to draw some viewers away from AI).
For the first 8 weeks of the spring season (Feb & March) run 1 or 2 hours of Lost on Mondays and Thursdays (because we can only tolerate so many reruns of Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy and The Bachelor). This would allow ABC to air a recap episode to catch people up on Seasons 1 & 2 and then re-air season 3 either entirely, or just the latter half of the season. Air the episodes earlier to pick up some of the people who were turned off by the 10:00 timeslot.
This carries us to the beginning of April, at which point they start airing the new episodes on either Mondays or Thursdays. Either way, there wouldn't be much competition.
Then hopefully you can air the rest of Season 4 in the fall before Season 5 hits. Unless of course the SAG strike kills the 08 Fall Season.
It's a guaranteed ratings grab for ABC and re-airing some of Season 3 could woo back some of those who wavered in their faith.
If the strike cuts out the Spring production season, it's not like the other networks will have much to throw against it. People get tired of gameshows and mid-season replacements rarely stick. If the network would have thought it had staying power, they'd have run it in the fall.
And why not show reruns of Lost over the summer? I love catching up on other shows I watch via the summer re-run season!
I think ABC is smart to air the episodes beginning February. No other shows will have new episodes, and all eyes will be on LOST, and guarantee good ratings which is what the network is looking for. Audiences unfortunately have short memory spans, and they can't afford to have people just not care about the show.
...(left off from above) "Audiences unfortunately have short memory spans, and the network can't afford to have people just not care about the show, by waiting yet another season to air them."
i'm slightly confused here..
someone help me out.
so were getting season 4 earlier than february? or were still getting it in february but just 8 episodes until the strike is over? AAGHHH.
but yes, i do support the writers guild strike. they deserve every penny earned from writing those amazing scripts and storylines.
As I said, I am willing to see the first 8 episodes and then wait, instead of waiting till 2009...
In response to Shelby:
Assuming that the strike continues, the first 8 episodes of season 4 will air from early February to late March 2008.
Lindelof and Cuse would rather hold the episodes until they resume production, but ABC does not want to do that.
" i think if the strike does affect the airing of the season...they should show 8 episodes in feb and march, then a 5 month pause until october, show the remaining 8 episodes oct. and nov. then a 2 month pause(dec. jan.) and Lost to start again in Feb.of 2009"
This is absolutely one hundred percent the most logical and the exact thing they should do CaptainJack. I can not wait any longer than February I could care a less if it is only 8 episodes. We all need some Lost seriously. The show would be dealt a crushing blow if they extended this hiatus any longer. Plus there is going to be nothing on but AI and a possible Big Brother winter season on CBS which i'm exicted about lol!!! But I swear if I don't get my Lost fix by February I and many other people are going to go mad. I think they could possibly show the remaining 8 in Sep Oct v Oct Nov. I know it would suck getting through 8 only and then having another big break but its a hell of a lot better than a extending this hiatus any longer.
I do support this strike however I wanna know why it had to come to this in the first place. One of the main issues they are fighting over is 4 more cents on DVD's is that really that hard to change?
thanks for the support deedsy...the reason i'm for the feb-march 8eppys, oct-nov 8eppys, and then feb-may 16eppys is if they by any chance tie in the 8 remaining episodes into a 24 episode season next year,we get short changed a huge season finale!!!there won't be any "you gotta be shi**** me!" like there was at the end of last years season finale....they are not goin to give us 2 season finales in an uninterrupted 24 episode season....obviously i'm only for this in case they don't give us a full 16 eppy season right now
