Update: 24:00 I can also confirm that Lost's regular timeslot will be 9:00pm on Wednesdays.
There were a number of rumours going around about the Season 5 Premiere being a 2 hour event. I've just got confirmation from ABC that this is infact true.

22:00 - Episode 5.02

WTF? A two-hour premiere? That was completely unexpected. I would rather that they just play one new episode because then I can savour my Lost, but this is a smart decision, ratings-wise. Shows usually grow throughout the night, gaining viewers with each half hour, but usually lose some between the weeks so Lost will have more people at the end of the first week coming back next week.
I am so glad that it is Wednesday at 9 instead of Thursday at 10. American Idol does not hurt Lost and Grey's Anatomy should be launching that would benefit from a lead-in (remember last April when Lost returned with the same ratings as when it left--the strong lead-in did not help it at all.
Perhaps I am most happy that it will not conflict with a wedding on January 31 that I will be going to a few days early.

I'm glad they're coming back to Wednesdays at 9. Much easier than any 10:00 time slot. I guess that'll give me an extra day to work on everything too.

American Idol is only doing one-hour episodes this season, so it will not conflict with Lost. The only shows that will be airing Wednesday at 9 are Lost's old timeslot rival Criminal Minds on CBS, Life on NBC, a new show on FOX called Lie to Me and the CW's Stylista.
More than I dared hope for. And this hot on the heels of the return date. Too sweet. On days like this it pays to be a Lost fanatic :)

This is really great news, but doesn't this mean that Season 5 is going to end on May 7? And also, it's only going to be a one hour season finale? I'm not sure if I like that..kinda loses the momentum toward the end, don't you think?

What a week for good news! I do wish though they were only going to do the recap and then the premiere... it makes for too short of a season to put two new episodes back to back like this, as if the seasons as of late are too brief anyway.
Hey the more the faster the better! I would be happy if the whole season came on one week. :D I can settle for two new episodes on one day!

I was just about to say that this means that Lost's finale will be on April 29. I assume that they will have a two-hour finale because they do not need to have to share Thursday with Grey's Anatomy anymore, not that that stopped them. I can understand ending a week before the end of May sweeps (which is May 20) on May 13 to boost ratings, but a two-hour finale means April 29--not even May 7. Sorry DarkUFO, but I am beginnign to doubt this three-hour premiere, especially when ABC ran an ad a few days ago that promoted a "two-hour premiere".

Theres going to be 17 episodes this season, that doesn't mean it will be 17 hours long, the premiere could be 2 episodes but the finally could be a 2-hour 1 episode.
And now http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=index says three hours.

This is great news. Guess it will shorten the season, but what a way to go! But it means recording Criminal Minds on the HDDVR on one set so I can record Lost to disc as I watch it. Lost gets saved in our house - not for my husband, but for ME! Can't wait for the US release for S4 DVD's. Doesn't give a lot of time to get it viewed though. Wish it came out earlier. Hope we get goodies with it to.

This is making up for the ARG and the hiatus. First we had a 3-hour season finale, now a 3-hour season premiere! And it's back on Wednesday at 9! Just great!

Re: thedemonhog - Hey, the fourth-season finally was only supposed to be an hour but Carlton convinced abc to add an hour. I'm positive the season finally of 5 will be two hours long. Remember the premiere is two episodes not 1.

This is really good news, I just hope that they run the whole season through with no one week stops here and there. I would rather a single episode on the first night than a week with no episode. Here's hoping!
