Update: 12th April Here is how the episodes will break down.
Episode 4.09 - 24th April 10pm-11pm
Episode 4.10 - 1st May 10pm-11pm
Episode 4.11 - 8th May 10pm-11pm
Episode 4.12 - 15th May (Finale Part 1) 10pm-11pm
Episode 4.13 - 29th May (Finale Part 2 and 3) 9pm-11pm
It's official: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Steve McPherson has signed off on Lost's extra-special 14th hour this season, which means Lost is getting a three-hour finale! The first hour airs May 15, the second and third hours will air May 29. (In between, on Thursday, May 22, Ugly Betty has an hour finale and Grey's Anatomy airs a two-hour season finale of its own.)
Word is that there are so many big reveals that the producers wanted to deliver this season, that they felt like anything less than a full three-hour finale would have cheated the fans. In fact, I'm hearing that writers' draft of the second half of the finale was 80 pages long, which led all parties involved to realize these stories had to be told now. Anything else would be a ripoff.
So, ABC made it happen, with the help of Shonda Rhimes and Grey's Anatomy, who agreed to a two-hour finale on May 22. And bless McPherson and friends for taking the risk of letting the Lost finale air on May 29—that's after the end of the critical ratings sweeps period. If you're a Lost fan, but don't usually watch Grey's you might consider doing Team Alphabet a solid and just tuning your TV to their channel for the GA finale that night!
Needless to say, this news rocks. Post your excitement below.

Awesome!!!!!!
This is most excellent news. I'm so pumped that LOST is getting the 2 Hour Finale on one night like it deserves. It sounds like we are gonna be getting a ton on information these final 6 hours and I for one, can't wait!
YAHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
This is awesome! I can't freakin wait for the season to continue!
I'm happy that this takes away my schedule conflict on the 22nd... cause when Lost is up against Indiana Jones, Lost is screwed.
:D
I'm still not quite sure how this works. Exactly how many hours of Lost are there remaining?
Originally, there were supposed to be five one-hour segments, right? Now, on the Episodes section of the site, there are only four episodes listed.
Now there is a three-hour episode spread over 2 nights?
Dark, can you explain everything a bit more clealry?
suh-weet!
Let me explain for you ... there are 3 more "regular" episodes coming ... episodes 9, 10 and 11. Then... there'll be the 3 "finale" episodes, episodes 12, 13 and 14. 13 and 14 will be shown on the same night, 2 weeks after episode 12. Any discrepancies will only come down to whether or not you class 12+13+14 as one episode. Since they're separated by 2 weeks, I don't think you can... 13+14 could be classed as a 2-hour episode 13 but does it really matter?
That's it really...
Well, thank you.
What the? Creativity over advertising revenue?? I don't believe it...
YYYYEEESSSSSSS!
Friggin awesome. Darlton are gods.
So do you think are all three of the finale episodes the same centric? I guess it would work as long as its multicentric flashes (freighter people, oceanic 6, islanders, etc)...
Oh man, I'm excited. I really wish this hiatus were over... right... this... second...!
Curtis,
think about it like what happened with Season 1's season finale "Exodus". They had Exodus Part 1 air on one week and then next week they had Exodus Part 2 air except Part 2 was 2 hours (almost like a Part 2 and a Part 3). Before this change the schedule looked like this:
April 24 - Episode 9
May 1 - Episode 10
May 8 - Episode 11
May 15 - Episode 12 (Finale Part 1)
May 22 - Episode 13 (Finale Part 2)
Now it's going to be like this:
April 24 - Episode 9
May 1 - Episode 10
May 8 - Episode 11
May 15 - Episode 12 (Finale Part 1)
May 29 - Episode 13+14 (2 hour Finale Part 2)
I'm psyched about this news because I thought we were getting screwed before.
THANK YOU ABC!! I can have my cake (2 hour finale of Lost) and eat it (Indiana Jones at midnight) too!
Yeah!!!!!!!!!
man i just can't wait! there are so many rumors swirrling around and i just can't wait! i just watched all seasons for like the sixth time and i just need my fix! for me the big question isn't how they get off (i bet there will be a twist there) it is what will happen at the end of this season that really blows our minds?! you know it's coming and we just aren't ready for it! I wonder if more of Christian Shepherd or something unbelievable is going to happen! We might find out baby Aaron is actually part smokie and part island and his skin is just a shell to hide his mess! jk. oh man so excited...
this is great. I love abc. steve mcpherson rocks.
Amazing! Now no one can say that ABC isn't committed to letting Darlton tell their story their way.
Heh, awesome. I figured we'd have a 3-hour finale for the season 6 finale... but already?
Damn. They must want to reveal a whole heck of a lot... or stuff, you know, actually happening for 3 hours.
Oh, and thanks for posting that Nightwing. Glad someone else actually knows what's going on :)
Yes MAJOR MAJOR props to both Team Darlton and ABC for making this happen!!!
Also, major love to all LOST fans, because without our passion there is no WAY this would happen for ANY other show....!!
F everyone that talks about ratings this is the best show ALL around ever!!
Producers, Writers, Cast, Crew, Fans, and ok love for the network ABC as well!!
Can you tell I am happy!?
YYYYAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is AWESOME!!!
It is stuff like tis that proves what an incredible show this is!! I am in awe...
DARLTON & ABC ROCKS!!!!!
MORE LOST! MORE LOST!! MORE LOST!!!
I'd rather have a three hour LOST finale on one night. The two week wait between the first hour and the final two is gonna be brutal - I have a feeling hour one will end with a huge cliff-hanger which will leave me very frustrated.
Three words: frozen donkey wheel.
Great News!
It will be like "Exodus" from Season 1: Exodus, Part 1 (one hour) and Exodus, Part 2 (2 hours).
This is some of the best news I've heard in a long time! "Darlton is my constant!" (I heard that screen name on one of their podcasts and thought it was hilarious!)
Anyways, I can't wait for the rest of season 4, not to mention the soundtrack for Season 3! Woo hoo!
TPTB manifested their powers again!
:::dancing::: A Lost finale on my BIRTHDAY!! Life is so beautiful.
@heathcliff
Come on... This is such good news and yet someone finds something negative to say about it.
Happy Birthday Amelia :)
And I firmly believe the second half of Lost season 4 is going to be the greatest thing ever. Maybe even better than the air we breathe.
May 29 is my birthday! I'm so happy, best birthday gift ever! Turning 21 with a 3 hour finale, thank you TPTB and ABC!
"I'm happy that this takes away my schedule conflict on the 22nd... cause when Lost is up against Indiana Jones, Lost is screwed."
R u serius Jasonthemax nothing on tv or movies comes before Lost
Indiana Jones ain't fit to clean John Locke's boots ;)
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!
THANK YOU ABC!!!!
THANK YOU DARLTON!!!!
THANK YOU LIFE!!!!
great news, can't wait till it returns! i am so happy we are going to watch a 3hour finale!i am sure it's going to be awesome
The good news is that, now we have an extra hour. The much better news is that, Team Darlton wanted this extra hour to "reveal more" than they thought, which means the extra hour won't be a mass of events.
BTW, I'm SHOCKED when I read the line that says "the other half of the season finale script is 80 pages" - I mean - wha-? The writer team exulted to write a 160 page - I guess - of season finale. :P
May 15
8 pm: Ugly Betty
9 pm: Grey's Anatomy
10 pm: Lost (part 1 finale)
May 22
8 pm: Ugly Betty finale
9-11 pm: Two-hour Grey's Anatomy finale
May 29
8 pm: Lost encore (part 1 finale)
9-11 pm: Two-hour Lost finale
wow 3-hour Lost during the night:)))

Dude, that's like, totally awesome! ;)
Frickin' ACES! This is awesome news, thanks Dark :)
its awesome we are gettin 3 parts but there is one major downside.
After the first part we have to wait 2 weeks, how hard are those 2 weeks gonna be.
i also hope it aint spoilt like last years weeks in advance
SHEEEEEIIIIT! This is like "Exodus", way back in Season One!!!! Awesome!!
Man oh Man - they'll have the 29th time slot wrapped in a big red bow - sweeps or not!!! Congratulations of the decision to do this. Looks like us fans are in for some input overload!! Yikes! We'll be chewing this all over the WEEKS! Great for Dark's blog!
Wow. It was like, over two months ago we were certain that season 4 would end with the 8th episode because of the WGA strike.
But look at the ending now. It's just like my favourite finale Exodus!
YAY!!!! This is gonna be legendary... Too bad we have to wait two weeks to get the conclusion of the finale, but this is better than not having a two hour finale.
May is gunna be a cool month =]
Great news!
Really, LOST deserved the last 2 hours to be at one night!
And 80 pages! That's huuuge! I really hope to get some answers form the next 6 episodes :)
Oh Happy Day!
Awesome news! Thanks Darlton and ABC!
I can't wait to find out what they're going to put into that 3-hour finale.
I might just wait and catch all 3 hours on the 29th....fluck yea.
I'm probably the only guy in the world who is NOT over the moon with this news. We've heard the writers say the exact same thing several years ago for Exodus, and even though I thought part 1 was brilliant, I thought the rather padded parts 2 and 3 are a bit of a let-down. And people seem to have forgotten what a bad reaction that episode received after it aired.
more LOST is ALWAYS good news
awesome for all of you and everyone else but sucks for me. i'm going to miss the last 2 hours!!!! i'm going to australia on the 25th and i'll still be there, nowhere near a tv, on the 29th! rawr! and i don't even know when lost airs in AUS anyway!
i might cry.
Do you think they were planning this all along, seeing as they didn't want to compete with Indiana Jones?
GREAT plan, Darlton/ABC! Now I can remain obsessed over LOST AND Indiana Jones, and not have to choose between the two.
@sarah
Australian here. We usually get episodes months after the yanks, but because of the show being pushed to 2008, we got to see the episodes only a few days after the Americans.
Great news...but that two weeks is sure going to suck I'm sure!
quangtran, so what day do you think the last part of the finale will air? i'll be in Hobart from the 30th of may til june 6th. on the 29th i'll be in sydney.
is it different regionally?
of course i could always got someone to record it for me, i don't have a DVR....
sorry guys, i know none of this matters to you.
Who cares how they package it, it's an extra hour of Lost! Seriously, the only difference will be part 2's flash will longer as they now have 2 hours to fill.
BTW, 60-65 pages translates to roughly 42 minutes, or an hour of television. I guess that means they weren't able to whittle it down from 80 pages. Hopefully that means they'll expand the story a bit more and give us little time to catch our breath.
My biggest criticism with S4 is it's been too action packed, unlike Season 1 where the stories were allowed to build a bit.
Actually I think every page = a minute, therefore 80 pages makes total sense since there's about 20 minutes of commercials for each hour of tv.
Sarah, according to lostpedia the finale will airing the same as in the us, may 29, but maybe they haven't updated it yet.

TheLoneAssassin said... Happy Birthday Amelia :) And I firmly believe the second half of Lost season 4 is going to be the greatest thing ever. Maybe even better than the air we breathe.
==========
Depends where you live.
If you live in Los Angeles or Beijing that isn't much of a compliment :)
Dude!! Hurley - That's like a jedi moment lol
A huge thanks to Dark, Steve McPherson, Darlton & everyone else.
Least season, there were quite a few poeple who complained. This season, no one complained {not I know of anyway} & we ended up with a real treat this season.
It feels like Christmas all over again!! Lost rocks!!
THIS IS GREAT THIS IS GREAT THIS IS GREAT!!!!
yes!!!!!!! this is just about the best news ever.
so in season 4 is ther only going to be 14 episodes out of the whole season can someone fill me in please
joel, this is what bob posted higher up the page:
Let me explain for you ... there are 3 more "regular" episodes coming ... episodes 9, 10 and 11. Then... there'll be the 3 "finale" episodes, episodes 12, 13 and 14. 13 and 14 will be shown on the same night, 2 weeks after episode 12. that really cool!!
im going to Australia on the 10th and want to watch the finale right away..
does anyone know if the full length episodes on ABC.com work there??
if not, does anyone have any suggestions for any websites that post the episodes right away with good quality??
This is amazing news!
@eccentricolour:
Unfortunately the episodes on ABC.com can't be accessed from foreign countries. Australia' schedule is only running 6 days behind though.
Lostpedia even claims the finale will air in Australia before it airs in the US, but that must be a mistake.
Yus! this is great news, except for the whole two weeks of waiting :( this mini hiatus has been tough enough..
Great, great news! Thanks Darlton and ABC :)
I'm sure these 2 weeks break between the finale will be very exciting here at Darkufo ;)
Let's save the whining for time we'll have to wait to see season 5!
thanks nustes!
so does that mean that Australia will not take the 4 week break we took and just continue the season??
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GREATE!!!!!!!!!!i can't find words........................HOOOOOOOOOOOORAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.......................
This is so awesome! Yeah, it's going to be hard to wait an extra week, but an extra hour makes it worth it, especially if it means more reveals. I can't wait for Lost to come back next week!
so does that mean that Australia will not take the 4 week break we took and just continue the season??
4x01 was aired 6 days after it was in the US, the finale will probably also air 6 days after it has aired in the US. So the Australians will have to take a break of equal length to the one in the US.
