Update: 16:50 Thanks to Paweł for spotting that Lost is voted No.7 in the Top 10 TV Series category.
Thanks to Danie for the heads up.
At its best, Lost rips your heart out while it ties your brain in a knot. This season 4 episode did both expertly. Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) has been experiencing premonitions of the future since becoming "unstuck in time" (a la Slaughterhouse Five) earlier in the series. It turns out that he's been time-traveling, or rather, his mind has: his consciousness is journeying between present, future and past. (It makes sense when you watch, trust me.) The unfortunate side effects of this condition are madness and death, avoidable only by focusing on a "constant": a person or thing present in each time one's consciousness visits. Desmond's constant, he learns, is Penny (Sonya Walger), the girlfriend he left behind when he was stranded on Lost's mysterious island. His journey into his own past to find her in the present is tear-jerking and mind-blowing.

well deserved.
Damn right it was, this is probably one of my favourite episodes of anything, ever. It's up there with Buffy's 'Innocence' for me.
Just that minute has me in tears again.
yup, fav episode right there!
Well deserved.
@cmj, I am with you, it is honestly hard to watch that scene without choking up. And I've seen it like a dozen times.
Even if LOST keeps getting snubbed at the Emmys it's nice to see that it's being recognized in so many other avenues.
As soon as this episode cut to black I stood up in the seat of my recliner and declared with tears (that i didn't know were there) running down my cheeks "Best Episode EVER!" to an apartment full of people who pretty much wholeheartedly agreed.
I think this episode (and clip) is going to be on a number of "Best of 2008" lists.
I noticed the show is also in the top ten series of the year...in good company.
I think season 4 released the two best episodes of the series.
(1) 4.05 The Constant
(2) 4.12-4.14 There's No Place Like Home
I hate labeling any one of the finales as the best episode, because finales are always spectacular, but this one imparticular drew together some conclusions that people were ranting about for a while.
I absolutely love thinking and hoping that season 5 is going to be better than season 4. As we're getting prepared, I think a lot of people would agree.
Outstanding! It sure has had my vote all along. What a range of emotions it evoked perfectly.
Well done Lost :)
And thanks for including the video Dark, always a pleasure to watch.
It's nice to see it win some awards. LOST always gets looked over for awards because you need to understand the story each episode so The Constant hasn't got the praise it deserved in my opinion. For me The Constant is the best T.V. episode ever, but then again I really like Desmond.
This was such an amazing episode, and all about Desmond and Penny, so many people loved it and critics praise it. It will be a huge mistake if they kill off Penny.
I remember coming to Darkufo the following morning after the episode was aired (I can't watch live) and reading evebody's comments...
I had never seen such unanimity about an episode (after TTLG people had more questions than opinions :) I had goosebumps from the other fans reaction. And when I finally watched, it didn't deceive me :)
Great to see it get some recognition outside the fandom.
MNE, i rememeber that too. I actually wanted to read the synopsis on the episode before it aired but im soooo glad that I couldnt find anything about it. definitly one of the best episodes of the series!
Wow. I'm tearing up even now having just watched that scene for probably the 15th time. Just plain awesome television.
Oh f*ck! I've just cried again! Why this cruelty to me at 3 a.m. in the morning? Shit...

It was the season of ups and down. Having the two best, and three of the worst.
Hopefully season 5 brings consistency in at least half-decency!
But yeah, Constant deserves it.
Such good editing there. The guy who was the Editor on this episdoe should have won the Emmy for just that minute alone!
I think a little credit for the beauty of that scene should go to the genius Michael Giacchino who's music is what completes Lost but what makes it so wonderful is the collaboration of all writers, directors, actors, editor, etc of that episode. If anyone tells me there's nothing good on television i simply show them "The Constant", which attracts people into watching the show too and god knows we lost (no pun intended) viewers in the third season! Lost is the most unique show there is and it goes unoticed, i get so happy when people acknowledge it! Go LOST!

i agree...and like everyone else here...loved the episode...best of the season...and def. an episode on my all-time LOST Top 5 list!!
oh Dear ...blarting again for second time today
went to my grandaughters first school award christmas concert today..so adorable
Why is it that I can remain strong when theres a death in the family, but when it comes to one minute of fictional televison I break down like a little girl?
I promise, Grandad, it doesn't mean I didn't love you.
Even this one minute has me feeling the same way I did watching the whole episode. What a truly deserved award.
Well deserved. Not only was it a great mythology episode, it delivered on the character end in spades - that one minute, even out of context, made me bawl like a baby too. A fine balance of yin and yang, Dharma would be proud.
*wipes tears from her eyes*
episodes like The Constant, The Economist deserve this and more.
Great writing, great acting, to me it's always been like watching a movie. Way better than many movies I've ever seen actually.
3 of the worst? Which ones?
Perfect television in every possible way. And I am crying again...
