Update: 1st August Polls have now been closed and the Brackets update. Next Poll will appear on Monday. Update: 16:00 Here is the latest stats update from our resident stats guru Locke4God
STATISTICAL UPDATE:
Well as you all know it's been a relatively smooth sailing 3rd Round so far, and today is no different. So as we enter our 2nd consecutive day where all 23 of the top 23 leading brackets picked correctly, I thought we'd take a look at the overall impression of how the 3rd Round has played out. It should be noted though that both today's and yesterday's matches were routs in part because, and I don't think this is a big suprise to anyone, but both "The Incident" and "The Constant" are 2 of the top 3 favorites in regards to the number of brackets picking them to win the whole contest. I won't tell you which was picked most, but both are highly competitive, and the eventual winner may suprise you.
3rd ROUND ROUNDUP:
With the final match in this round looking to be perhaps the closet contest of the 3rd Round, I thought we'd review how close the 3rd actually was. HINT: It wasn't close.
The Number beside the name of each match, indicates the rank of each episode in regards to % of brackets who picked it to win in the 3rd Round only. It does not indicate how highly it was picked to win in other rounds. And so the #1 episode here, is not necessarily picked to win the whole tournament. Lafleur for instance lost in the 2nd round, but is ranked 5th in episodes picked to win it all. Go figure.
The match on the left was the eventual winner.
Match 1: (8) Man From Tallahassee favored by 33% vs. (13) Lockdown Match 2: (7) Live Together Die Alone favored by 42% vs. (15) Man of Science Man of Faith Match 3: (3) Through the Looking Glass favored by 72% vs. (17) Man Behind the Curtain Match 4: (5) Exodus favored by 53% vs. (11) Cabin Fever Match 5: (6) Pilot favored by 52% vs. (14) Flashes Before Your Eyes Match 6: (2) The Incident favored by 90% vs. (40) Because you Left Match 7: (1) The Constant favored by 92% vs. (31) The Brig Match 8: TBD ",,, Jeremy Bentham" vs. "There's No Place Like Home"
So what can we learn?
1. Of course 16 matches participate in this round, and you might note that the top 8 expected to win in the 3rd Round, in fact did so. That means there were no upsets, at least in this round. 2. You can see that the 2 highest seeds were picked by gigantic margins. You would expect those two episodes to do well, but you can also see that they were facing matches that were ranked 31st and 40th. In other words, they had no competition. 3. That leads you to note that there were no matches in the final 16 ranked at 9th, 12th, or 16th. Instead they were replaced by matches ranked 17th, 31st, and 40th. 4. That is because our 9th Ranked match “La Fleur” ran into trouble in the 2nd round, having to face the 15th ranked “Man Of Science Man of Faith” . That’s 2 top 16 matches facing off in the Round of 32. Something had to give. Likewise 12th Ranked “Beginning of the End” met 13th Ranked “Lockdown” and lost in round 2, and 16th Ranked “Dead is Dead” actually had the unfortunate luck of meeting 14th Ranked “Flashes Before Your Eyes” in Round 1. Of the 3 matches, that was the only one that wasn’t an official upset, but what a match to have had take place that early. 5. Now don’t get too excited about “The Incident” or “The Constant”. Sure they won big, but the two are on the same side of the Bracket, so they'll likely have to meet up. Instead look at the 3rd Ranked match this round, “Through the Looking Glass.” It was picked by a very comfortable 72% margin, and that was against the 17th ranked match, not the 31st or 40th. It beat out significantly better competition. 6. And definitely don’t forget about either “Exodus” or “Pilot” from the 1st season. Both won and were picked by over 50% margins against two matches in the top 14. Their routes have been harder than any of the top 3 ranked matches in the 3rd round and could surprise you going into the 4th.
Other than that, let’s look forward to what could be the most exciting 3rd Round match on Monday, one that could liven up the standings, and good luck to you all heading into Round 4.
Congratulations to The Incident for taking the 6th Qtr-Final place in a landslide.
The Incident 2555 94% Because You Left 175 6%

Update: 16:30 Here are Locke4God's Stats update for today.
STATISTICAL UPDATE:
And we have a rout. Of course most of us might have expected this, but we have the pleasure of looking forward to a great match in the 4th Round between LOST'S very first episode, and it's very last (so far). That one will throw up some fireworks, but as far as today goes, we have hit 100%!!!!! 100% of today's top 23 Brackets picked "The Incident" to move on, and those top 23 Brackets represent everybody who remains within 3 of the lead.
BREAKDOWN:
3 - Brackets will still maintain a share of the lead with 85 Points (189 MAX) after today 5 - More brackets sit just off the podium in 4th place with 84 Points (188 MAX) 3 - Brackets will tie for 9th at 83 Points (187 MAX) 12 - final brackets will round out the top 23 with 82 Points (186) MAX and just 3 off the current lead. Actually 1 of those final 12 has only 178 MAX points, and so you're really looking at a top 22.
And there are plenty of Brackets that are hanging out with 80 or 81 Points, or in the 184 or 185 MAX point area, and those still have a shot. It really depends on what you have remaining, and if you've taken any chances that might pay off.
As we mentioned in previous updates, there is likely to be a big upset somewhere along the road, and we know there are going to be several close matches remaining. Those are where you're going to have a big opportunity going into the next round.
Congratulations to the Pilot for taking the 5th Qtr-Final place.
Pilot 1878 67% Flashes Before Your Eyes 910 33%

The Incident Jack and Sayid's plan faces resistance from Sawyer, Juliet, and Kate. Ben and The Others/Hostiles reach Jacob at the Foot of the Statue, and are soon met by the 316 survivors, who reveal the contents of their mysterious package.
Because You Left As a result of Ben moving the island, the survivors left on the island begin skipping through time. Meanwhile, three years later in Los Angeles, Ben starts convincing the Oceanic 6 to return to the island.
Update: 29th July Here is Locke4God's daily dose of Stats goodness
STATISTICAL UPDATE:
Well I was hoping to wait until at least the fourth round to say this, but if you pull up the brackets link, and look at the first page, you're probably looking at the eventual winner. Oh there's time, and somebody from page 2 or 3 could sneak in, but with so few brackets missing over the last few matches, it's getting more and more difficult to catch up, unless of course if we have a big upset.
The great news is that 1 of the top 4 brackets that had shared the lead coming into today, will miss today's match. And then there were 3. But only 5 total brackets in the top 28 of the current standing lost, which means 82% of those top brackets were correct, and that means 23 total brackets still stand within 3 of the overall lead. If you're below that mark, you need all of them to lose, which is why 82% picking correctly is a bad thing for you. Bring on the close matchups!!
BREAKDOWN:
Of brackets with,,, 76 Points - 3 still remain standing after today, with 75% picking correctly 75 Points - 5 of the 6 coming into today were correct for 83% 74 Points - All 3 bracket here stayed within 2 of the lead, and,,, 73 Points - 12 of the 15 Brackets (80%) were correct in picking todays match, and remain 3 points down.
In regards to MAX points, the above standings reflect the same results with the exception of those 3 points off the lead. 2 of those 15 Brackets have already guaranteed themselves losses in upcoming matches are actually behind the rest of those brackets, and so in regards to MAX points, 11 of 13 Brackets (85%) that were 3 off the lead, were correct in picking todays match. And that places just 22 brackets within 3 of the overall lead.
OUTLOOK:
Today's result though promisses an interesting 4th round match between the show's very first episode, and it's most recent one, as, baring a major major upset tomorrow, "Pilot" will meet "The Incident". These are two iconic episodes, and could deliver a major shakeup in the standings in round 4.
Tomorrow's match does feature "The Incident" vs. "Because you Left" and while I've suggested "The Incident" is the favorite, it isn't so close that we couldn't see an upset. Remember, the more people that fall out of contention or who have missed in the previous round, the more unpredictable these matches become. Good Luck.
Congratulations to Exodus for taking the 4th Qtr-Final place.
Exodus 1215 70% Cabin Fever 513 30%

Sayid Jarrah fixes the apparatus and organizes an expedition with Kate, Charlie, Shannon Rutherford and her brother Boone Carlyle and the dangerous James "Sawyer" Ford to hike and climb a mountain to transmit a SOS. The group receives a sixteen years old distress call from a French woman in the island instead and kills a polar bear. They return to the survivor's base and decide to hide the information to preserve the hope of the group.

"A new Lost Season 6 promo poster has been seen at Comic-Con 2009! This poster includes all of the main characters from the show (both dead and alive). In the center is John Locke (or Flocke, Mr. X, Esau, Jacob's nemesis, etc.) with his back facing us. I almost passed out when I saw this promo poster; the excitement for Season 6 is killing me!! All of the main characters appearing on the promo for Season 6 could be seen as major foreshadowing for what we will see this upcoming season. This is an awesome, amazing promo poster, and has gotten me more excited about the upcoming season than ever. Share your thoughts and comments on this new promo!!". Source: Lostpedia
Thanks to B3RT4 for the heads up and to SL-LOST for the poster that was shown at Comic-Con
Update: 15:30 Here is our daily dose of stats goodness thanks to Locke4God.
STATISTICAL UDATE:
It's funny that as the tournament moves on, and the matches become more and more important, that those at the top, seem to be more and more in agreement.
100% of the top 10 brackets in both current and MAX Points picked todays match correctly, just as they did yesterday and the day before. 88% of the top 32 Brackets in current points were correct today, and 87% of the top 30 in MAX Points picked correctly. Not one of the 4 in that top group who missed had their miss moving on to the Semi Final, and all 4 misses had picked Cabin Fever, as opposed to it's previous 2nd Round opponent..
BREAKDOWN:
Current Point Leaders, of those with,,,
73 Points - All 4 current leaders picked correctly. Somebody is going to have to miss! 72 Points - All 6 waiting for a share of the lead picked correctly 71 Points - Just 3 of this group picked correctly, meaning 2 lost. Only 60% 70 Points - And 15 of the 17 Brackets still 3 off the lead, hang in there for their shot at the top. That's 88%.
MAX Point Leaders fared similarly, of those with,,,
189 Points - All 4 leaders picked correctly. These are the same 4 that share the current lead. 188 Points - All 6 were correct 187 Points - 3 of 5 were correct. The same 60% as shown above, but 186 Points - Only 13 Brackets, not 15, share a tie at -3 off the lead in MAX Points. That means 2 in the current standings are guaranteed another loss before the end. Still only 2 brackets lost in this category and that's good for 87%.
OUTLOOK:
Overall another easy day for most of us, but that means if you're back in the back that you're not making progress. As it looks for now, you've got 2 great chances to move up. That's the potential semi-final match between "The Incident" and "The Constant", and then of course between the winner of that match and most likely, ",,, Looking Glass" in the final.. Those are your two matches where you will move up the most.
But there are some other matches where we could see upsets. Will ",,, Looking Glass" actually get past the semi final? It would be an upset, but it could certainly happen, and don't forget about the possible quarterfinal match between "Pilot" and "The Incident". That could turn up as a suprise as well and really upset the standings.
Good luck to you all moving forward.
Congratulations to Through the Looking Glass for taking the 3rd Qtr-Final place.
Through the Looking Glass 2402 82% The Man Behind the Curtain 527 18%

Cabin Fever Locke, Ben, and Hurley continue their search for the cabin so that Locke can talk to Jacob. Back on the boat, Keamy prepares to take off again, this time for a all-out assault on the island.
Exodus Danielle Rousseau arrives in the camp of survivors at the beach and advises that "The Others" are coming, since there is a black smoke in the sky, and they have three choices: run, hide, or die. Jack recalls his meeting with Ana Lucia Cortez (Michelle Rodriguez) in the airport. Meanwhile, the group is launching the raft in the sea. Sawyer tells Jack the conversation he had with his father in a bar in Australia. Jack, Kate, Locke, Hurley and the boring Leslie Arzt (Daniel Roebuck) go in an expedition to bring explosives from the Black Rock to blow the hatch and shelter the survivors against "The Others". Meanwhile, Jin and Sun make peace and there are farewells to Michael, Walt, Sawyer and Jin as they finally set sail on their makeshift raft to find help and safety.
Update: 13:50 Here is the stats update from Locke4God.
STATISTICAL UPDATE:
Today is going to be really really thin in regards to this update, and I appologize, but not much is shaking out there.
Every single one of the top 16 Brackets picked today's match correctly.. Why the top 16? Well the top 16 represent the those within 2 of the lead in regards to both MAX and current points. So everybody with a 189, 188, or 187 MAX score got this match right, which means the rest of us got not one inch closer to the lead.
But don't worry, because almost everybody else got this match right too, and so simply nothing has really changed in the standings. THE TENSION BUILDS!!!!
What's really interesting to me is that everybody admits that both of these matches are great, and yet, it's a runaway. That brings me back to several round 1 matches where people "couldn't believe" that match X was getting clobbered by match A. Sometimes matches are close, but we all acknowledge one is clearly better. So if you had a tough time picking today's match, hopefully you don't fall too far, and you can look forward to picking those 4 points back up later this round.
Congratulations to Live Together, Die Alone for taking the 2nd Qtr-Final place.
Live Together, Die Alone 1693 76% Man of Science, Man of Faith 531 24%

I am sure that I am way behind or not looking in the right place but has the DarkUFO site let everyone know about these “Lost Mysteries” featurettes that are on the ab.com web site? The first one went up yesterday and there are four more to come. They are all about the mysteries of Dharma.
